Lentokone laskeutui nopeammin ja helpommin kuin koskaan ennen – sen muistan varmasti. Tuntia myöhemmin olin jo Helsingissä, odottamassa junaa Kotkaan. Kymmenen Norjassa viettämäni vuoden jälkeen olin juuri muuttanut Suomeen – siirryin Kymi Sinfoniettan riveihin elokuussa 2019. Se oli aivan uusi alku, kaikki oli erilaista – uudet ihmiset, uusi orkesteri, uusi kieli. Kaikki tuntui uudelta, innostavalta… ja tiesin, että tulisin varmasti kohtaamaan myös haasteita. Toisaalta suomalaisten tapa toimia tuntui heti jotenkin kotoisalta, oli aivan kuin olisin ollut nyt oikeassa paikassa oikeaan aikaan. Ehkäpä siihen vaikutti osaltaan myös vuokraemännän tervetulotoivotus täpötäyden jääkaapin muodossa…

Kotkaan oli totisesti helppo asettua – Katariinan kauniit merenrannat, rentouttava ja rauhallinen Sapokka ja puistojen reunustama viihtyisä keskusta, kaikki miellytti minua. Tunne oli aivan uusi. Lähdettyäni aikoinani Serbiasta ja kotikaupungistani Belgradista olin viettänyt muutamia vuosia Oslossa, mutta nyt tunsin ensimmäistä kertaa, että saatoin keskittyä. Saatoin olla läsnä pienissä hetkissä, keskittyä ajan kulkuun. Se tuntui virkistävältä. Olin valmis tähän uuteen todellisuuteen.

Kymi Sinfoniettan projektit ovat osoittautuneet hyvin hedelmällisiksi ja mielekkäiksi. Olennainen ero muihin orkestereihin, joissa olen soittanut, on orkesterin kamarimusiikillinen ote – jokaisen muusikon osuus on tärkeä. Huomasin jo pian alkaneeni soittaa nyansoidummin. Nautin siitä. Koko orkesteri, sen hallinto mukaan lukien, jakaa vastuuntunteen ja kunnioituksen musiikkia kohtaan. Tämä orkesteri ymmärtää tehtävänsä julkisen palvelun välittäjänä. Se synnyttää läheisyyttä, jonka ansiosta muusikot ja yleisö ovat konserteissa vahvassa vuorovaikutuksessa.

Me tiedämme, että musiikilla on iso merkitys paitsi yksittäisen ihmisen elämässä, myös yhteiskunnassa. Voisiko muusikko toivoakaan suurempaa taiteellista haastetta?

THE NEW BEGINNING

It was the quickest plane landing ever – I remember that for sure. An hour later, there I was, in Helsinki – waiting for the train to Kotka. After 10 years in Norway, I have moved to Finland to join Kymi Sinfonetta in the Autumn of 2019. With this new start, I have found myself in a completely different circumstances – new people, new orchestra, new language. Everything felt new, fresh…and certainly new challenges were ahead of me. But on the other hand – I felt strange familiarity with the Finnish ways, it was as though I was at a right place at a right time. Hmmm, the fact that my landlord welcomed me with the fridge full of food maybe had something to do with it?

Kotka was certainly easy to embrace – from the beautiful sea shores of Katariina, relaxing and peaceful Sapokka and cosy city center surrounded with parks – everything was in balance with me. For sure, that was a new concept for me – after my hometown of Belgrade, Serbia and some years in Oslo – for the first time, I found myself very much focused. Focused on the little moments, focused on the time. It felt refreshing. I was ready for this new reality.

The projects with Kymi Sinfonietta proved to be extremely fruitful and meaningful. The chamber feel to the orchestra is the essential difference from the rest of the orchestras I played for – each player matters greatly. I quickly noticed I was able to play with greater nuances. I liked it. All of the players and the administration share the common understanding of responsibility and the respect for the music. There is a strong sense of public service with this orchestra and because of this more ”intimate” feel at the concerts, the players and the audience feed off of each other. Alongside the individual ambition, we know that music is the crucial component of every society. And what greater artistic challenge could a musician ask for?
